A freelancer is the right call more often than agencies want you to think

Most Google Ads accounts do not need a team of ten. They need one person who knows what they are doing, checks the account daily, and picks up the phone when something is on fire.

The person you meet is the person managing your account

No handoff to a junior who has had the account for three weeks. Same brain from sales call to weekly optimisations.

Your money goes to management, not overhead

Your $1,500 a month goes to the work. Not office rent, sales staff, account managers, and a project management layer.

Decisions happen in minutes

No "let me check with the team." If a keyword is leaking money, it is paused today, not next Tuesday.

Communication is direct

Slack, email, or a call. You will never be routed to a support inbox or wait 48 hours for a ticket update.

When a freelancer is not the right fit

There are accounts a solo cannot service properly. If you are running $500k a month of ads across twelve markets with 24/7 coverage requirements, you need an agency with cover for holidays and sick days. If your business model relies on ten people on a war-room call at 6am to launch a same-morning campaign, an agency is the safer bet. For everyone else, and that is most Australian and UK service businesses spending between $2,000 and $60,000 a month, a freelancer is genuinely the better call.

What managing your Google Ads actually looks like

Every engagement covers the same fundamentals. What changes is depth, based on your account size and where the biggest opportunities sit.

⚙️

Full Campaign Management

Search, Performance Max, Shopping, and YouTube. All the campaign types your account needs, run by one person who knows how they interact.

📈

Weekly Optimisations

Search terms, negative keywords, bid adjustments, budget pacing, ad rotation, audience refinement. Every single week.

✏️

Fresh Ad Copy Every Month

New responsive search ads written and tested against the existing set every month, based on what the data is actually saying.

🖥️

Landing Page Recommendations

Which pages are costing you money, and specifically what to change. Flagged as they come up, not saved for a quarterly review.

🎯

Conversion Tracking Review

Every quarter I make sure the numbers we are optimising toward are actually the right ones. Broken tracking is the number one reason accounts underperform.

📊

Monthly Reports That Say Something

What changed this month, what worked, what did not, and what is next. Not a 40-page PDF wall of screenshots.

From first call to first optimisation, in under a week

Onboarding is deliberately simple. Nobody has time for a six-week transition project.

A quick review of your account. No pitch, no follow-up sequence. Just an honest read on what is working and what is not.

Why "from $1,500 a month" and not one fixed number?

Because a $3,000 a month account and a $50,000 a month account do not take the same time to manage. You will get a real number after the discovery call, based on what your account actually needs. No surprise invoices, no scope creep.

No lock-in contracts. Month to month, 30 days notice either way.

About Chris

Managing Google Ads professionally since 2018. Beech PPC launched in 2026 as my full-time home for solo consulting work.

Based in Melbourne, but the client roster runs across Australia, the UK, and Europe. That covers self-storage brands in Germany, debt-help finance in the UK, home renovation in Scotland, and early intervention services here in Melbourne. Different industries, same job: make Google Ads pay for itself and then some.

Google Partner certified. Comfortable in every corner of the Ads platform, but the work I like most is turning around neglected accounts. Most accounts I take over have 20 to 30 percent of the spend leaking somewhere obvious, and finding it is genuinely the fun part.

Common questions

?

How much does it cost to hire a Google Ads freelancer in Melbourne?

Beech PPC management starts at $1,500 AUD a month, priced up from there based on account size and the amount of work involved. A $3,000 a month ad spend account will land close to that starting number. A $30,000 a month account with multiple markets and product feeds will be several times that. Audits are a flat $500. Health checks are free.

?

Do I have to sign a contract?

No. Everything runs month to month. Either side can end things with 30 days notice. In practice, most clients stay for years because it is working, not because they are locked in.

?

Is there a minimum ad spend to work with you?

There is no hard floor, but under about $2,000 a month in ad spend the maths on management fees rarely stacks up. If you are spending less than that, the free health check is the right starting point. I will tell you honestly whether hiring anyone at your current spend level makes sense.

?

Can you take over an existing Google Ads account?

Yes, and it is most of what I do. The switch is straightforward: you grant access, I run a full audit in week one, we agree what changes first, and the ongoing management kicks in from week two. No downtime.

?

I am brand new to Google Ads, is there anything I should know?

If your business has never run Google Ads before, you are eligible for a Google-issued starter credit through my Google Partner status. The exact offer changes from time to time (usually a spend-and-match structure), and I will walk you through it during the health check if it applies to you.

?

Do you work with businesses outside Melbourne or Australia?

Yes. About half the client roster is UK and European. Remote by design. Melbourne clients get the option of an in-person kickoff if it is useful, but everything else is remote for everyone regardless of location.

?

What is the difference between the free health check and a paid audit?

The free health check is a 15-minute review that surfaces the obvious stuff. Whether tracking is broken, whether campaigns are structured sensibly, and where money is likely leaking. The paid $500 audit is a proper multi-hour deep dive with a written report, prioritised recommendations, and specific fixes for you or your current agency to implement.

?

How long before I see results?

Depends on the account. Poorly tracked accounts get quick wins in week one just from fixing conversion measurement. Structural rebuilds take four to six weeks to show real movement. Anything involving Performance Max or bid strategy changes needs at least 30 days of learning before the numbers settle. I will tell you what to expect and when, at the discovery call.

See what your Google Ads is actually costing you

Fifteen minutes, no pitch, no follow-up sequence. If there is nothing worth fixing, I will tell you and we both move on. If there is, you will leave the call with a clear idea of what it would take to get it sorted.
